Island Living Tips
Caring for dogs in Koh Samui’s tropical climate.
Heat safety:
Walk early morning or late evening
Avoid hot concrete that can burn paws
Clean water: Offer fresh water regularly on walks and trips
Skin care:
Check for ticks after walks in long grass or forest areas
Watch for hotspots or sunburn on short-haired breeds
Soi dog awareness:
Remain calm if a stray dog approaches. Keep your dog close on a tight leash and calmly walk away.
Avoid walking into known packs — choose safe, quiet routes
Most soi dogs are bark-only and not aggressive, but it’s good to stay alert
Recommended walking areas:
Taling Ngam, Bang Por, and Lipa Noi beaches are peaceful and uncrowded
Chaweng Lake is a lovely 5km loop — a few soi dogs around, but generally safe
Bangrak Hillside for a scenic hike with your pup
Pet-friendly spots:
Most beach bars are dog-friendly, but dogs should be kept on a leash. Some favorites include:Elixir, The Garden, Kathy's Cafe, Treehouse, and Coco Beach — though there are many more welcoming venues island-wide.
